Sandra is a BellaNaijarian Reading “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodie Picoult

I read the Bailey Flanigan Series (Leaving, Learning, Longing and Loving) by Karen Kingsbury before My Sister’s Keeper, and it was spectacular. Bailey Flanigan is one of my favourite characters, and I felt we were in similar stages about making decisions on our futures.

This is A BellaNaijarian Reading, where folks come to discuss the books their reading—why they’re reading it, what they love about it, and why you should read it, too. You can read previous entries here.

Sandra, a medical student whose dad’s reading habit rubbed off on, shares her experience reading Jodie Picoult‘s My Sister’s Keeper.

Sandra’s reading habits

I read mostly romance, thrillers and Christian novels. I can remember reading most Enid Blyton books when I was younger. I read most of my books online, and I buy some from a book supplier. I read one book at a time, so that I can concentrate properly, and I am most comfortable reading on my bed.

The idea of a book club makes me happy. One of my dreams is to to start a book club when I am older with my girls, so that we can read and discuss books while sipping wine and eating cake. Sadly, I am not a part of one now.

On reading My Sister’s Keeper

I didn’t read any review about it before starting My Sister’s Keeper, and I got the book from a friend. The book is about family, and the main character is Anna, a thirteen year old girl who was conceived as a marrow match for her sister.

Anna undergoes different surgeries and transfusions so that her older sister can fight the leukaemia she suffers from. Everything goes well until Anna makes a decision that threatens to tear her family apart. The book was really emotional, and at the end I was in tears.

Anna was my favorite character. I loved her sense of humour, and the fact that she was resilient. I read it for about two days, and it was a great read. This is the first book I am reading that’s written by the author Jodie Picoult.

Other books Sandra loves

I read the Bailey Flanigan Series (Leaving, Learning, Longing and Loving) by Karen Kingsbury before My Sister’s Keeper, and it was spectacular. Bailey Flanigan is one of my favourite characters, and I felt we were in similar stages about making decisions on our futures.

My favourite books of 2018 include:

  • Masterpiece by Francine Rivers.
  • The Winston Brothers Series by Penny Reid.
  • Without Merit by Colleen Hoover.
  • Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo.

One book I think everyone should read is Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu and I plan on reading Sinner by Ted Dekker after this and I can’t wait.
